Check Control
My Check Control system has started to wig out the past few days. The 'TAIL LIGHT' indicator has appeared twice but neither time has the tail light been out. And also twice the 'COOLANT LEVEL-SEE OWNER'S MANUAL' has appeared but the coolant seems to be fine as the vehicle is running in proper order. Does anyone know what this is all about?

Sure! When I worked in auto parts retail waaaaayy back, we always used to sell a ton of bulbs (headlamps, turn signals, interior lighting) during the shoulder seasons. The pattern followed the weather, that being the big swings in temp and humidity. It was the same for air craft maintenance too, lots of electric gremlins showing up in the spring and fall.

The "coolant level" error message is a typical problem with these cars. The coolant level sensor tends to go bad, but is not very expensive or difficult to replace.
My E36 has had the "tail light out" as long as I have owned it (over 100K miles) and comes on every time I turn the lights on. Like you, my tail lights all work. I never investigated it further .... it was just an annoyance more than anything. I have read some posts about fixing the "tail light out" message so you may want to search this forum or the E36 forum and you may find a fix for it. Steve
