Locking Glitch

My E34 recently started doing an odd thing with the locks. Usually when I exit the vehicle for an extended period, I lock the doors just by pushing down the lock plunger on the door. But now when I do this it will pop back up and unlock the doors a few seconds after being locked. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this issue?

I don't have my owners manual handy (it's out in the car), but there are different locking "modes" you can set by positioning the locking barrel in the driver's side door. One of them can the prevent the doors from being locked/unlocked without exclusive use of a key. I believe that's the mode yours got set to. This is a normal function and most likely got triggered unintentionally, which is fairly easy to do. If you've got the owners manual, read up on how to turn that function off (what position the key has to be in and for how long eludes me right now). But there's nothing more to it than that. No worries, no glitch

Good food, good people, good times.

Mine has always done this when locked from the drivers door. I thought it was a feature to prevent you from locking your keys in the car.

The different locking modes are normal and deadlocked. if you turn the key appx 45 deg it will lock. Turn it 90 and it deadlocks. When deadlocked you can not open it even from inside the car. I do not think these modes affect locking it with the plunger.
