Problem with Towbar wiring

My X5 E53 did not have a towbar fitted, but I got one in the classifieds.(South Africa)

I had it installed, but they could not get the wiring sorted. The cable plugs into the socket inside the car( looks like a 13 socket) and have a adapter next to the towbar with a 7 socket plug. Do I need a module installed in the car to get it to work?
