Is it a 530 or 535? It shouldn't much matter... don't you just pull it open??

![]() It should have a little notch in it to just pull it... i'm not trying to be sarcastic or mean or obvious, but if you can't pull it open, then your hinge may be busted?

Or the locking pin is not disengaging.

The 530i is pretty good on gas but to forget how to open the fuel door is a little far fetched. I have to open mine periodically just so I don't forget. Seriously I'm going to weigh in on the locking pin being jammed. My gas cap doesn't fit right, it's a BMW cap, but it sticks out a bit and puts pressure on the fuel door. This could cause the locking pin to get jammed. Just a thought

I had a Ford Tempo like this once. It had a little lever near the driver's seat to pop the fuel door open. It never worked. I found that pushing in a bit on the fuel door right before pulling it open was the best trick. Later when I traded even up to an old girlfriend for her somewhat wrecked Scirocco, she had to call me to ask how to open the door. She never had a problem after that until the door simply fell off due to rust damage in the quarters. She drove that thing for several years after I gave it to her. Engine ticking, fuel pump whining, the car didn't give up until the strut perches out back collapsed. She drove it like that for another month before scrapping it and buying a Tercel.
