2011 3.5 break-in oil change
Hoping some of you can answer the following.
1. does the 3.5 come from factory with a special break-in oil, or its just the standard castrol synthetic oil? 2. anyone done an oil-change at 1200 miles - observations - should I just wait till the computer says it needs changing? 3. Have 200 miles on it and will soon take a 2000 mile trip. I know I have to vary the RPMs. But should I change oil at 1200 miles or wait till I return home and drop it at 2200 miles? 4. Is there a special tool to remove the oil filter top? What else can I use? thanks Joe |

There is another forum entry or two that covers this topic. There are many different opinions on this to be sure. I plan on keeping my 2011 35i Premium a long time, so I did an oil change at 1500 miles at my expense. I may do another at 7500, then the standard one they pay for at 15K and then adhere to the regular maintenance interval from then on out. Make sure they don't reset the mileage counter on the maintenance schedule if you do have them do an interim oil change so that you get the 15K/30K/etc ones they do at their expense.

there is no such thing as a break in fluid change anymore and that includes M cars. I feel the $105 every other oil change is worth it especially when you know those turbos are cooking the oil. A piece of mind is pretty cheep.

BMW uses normal synthetic oil from the factory. No one will stop you from changing it early on, but there is no need. Doing it at 7500mi (12500km) strikes a good balance.
