BMW UK has X3 Configurator

BMW UK is the first site to get an X3 Configurator up and running.......sort of. The option descriptions are non-existent and I feel bad for the Brits because the option packaging is a bit messed up (it's a bit like Audi, if you choose option X, then you buy the whole package......). But hey, it's yall's first shot if interested.

A couple observations:

• iDrive is standard
• I don't like the new BMW sport steering wheel designs
• One motor only (xDrive20d) in the UK

A lot of X5 convenience features trickle down as optional: HUD, electric bootlid, EDC, Cameras everywhere, rear window shades, electric towbar, and more.

Too bad they don't offer ventilated seats. My back sweats like a mother.

They can pick whatever wheels they want! "They just can't do that at the factory..." (when ordering my E70) Ya. Right.

IDK. There are two ways to look at it.

1. When they include every single thing separately, it feel like they are nickel and diming things that they know everyone wants to make the starting price look low and you become frustrated as the price slowly rises as you add things. Certain packages feel better...making you feel like you are getting a discount.

2. On the other hand, I understand where you are coming from by including things you don't need with things you want.

I think the best thing is to offer lots of packages that include everything but then allow the a la cart ordering for more if you do solo selection.

I tend to like everyting (that is not sport...i.e. all the luxury options). They should have a package called "full luxury package" and discount it 2K. This should include premium, navigation, xenon headlights, cold whether package, wiring for satalite radio and moonroof. The only things I should have to add are rear entertainment system, PDC, and rear camera.

I can't believe the cargo net was optional and I almost didn't get it. The stupid salesperson said he didn't know and it didn't matter. It was onlu $150 and it is one of the most useful things. It should be standard. That's the one that you can stretch to protect you when you pull the rear seats down. How could someone NOT have that. I've used it tons of times. Nickel and dime...lol
