Watch the Live Feed on Oct 13

The all-new BMW X3

I noticed that there will be a Live Feed on Wednesday, October 13th at 10:45 a.m.

Not sure what time zone that is?

It would be nice if they openned up the configurator after this.

I'm excited. I hear they are going to announce:

-ordering can start January 22, 2011
-price drop from current model (nice move eh...if it's true). We should thank Audi and Mercedes for this.
-When you order, you will be able to get video files of your car being built as the process is occuring.

Interesting.

Run flats are standard.

Keyless start is standard. I actually don' like that. I think there is a risk of leaving it on (although unlikely) like that guy did in NY or locking your keys in the car.

That was funny when he ducked the question of the engine. The current model has 260 hp and the 28i will have 20 hp but because it will be lighter it will be about the same or slightly better 0-60 but he answered that this is 300 and then answered that the intro model would be 240. lol A little tricky. He could have just said no for intro and yes for 35i.

Xenon headlights and 18" wheel tires are standard for 35i

I have keyless entry now and really love it. I didn't realize just how much I got used to keyless, until I drove a car that required putting a key in the door and the ignition. It's great when you're carrying something and don't have to take the key out of your pocket.

The doors will not lock if the key is inside the car.

Thanks

How would it know if the keys are just inside or just outside (in your pocket) the car. It seems like it is mostly proximity. If you lock it with the power locks on the driver door, I'm sure it would lock.

Keyless start is standard. Remote entry is standard. Then there is that one where you don't need to take it out of your pocket to get in your car. That is optional.

You made a good point about potentially locking your keys in the car. So, I decided to see what would happen if I placed my key on the driver's seat, locked the doors manually, then closed the door.

Result: the turn signals flashed twice, heard a beep, then the doors unlocked. I left the window down, just in case it remained locked. Once I got home, I tried it with the window up and got the same result.

Full disclosure, I currently drive a 2010 Lexus, but I'm going to purchase an X3 early next year. Not sure how a BMW with keyless would do under the same "test".

Cool. Thanks for trying it. If it is just distance, I don't know how the car can differentiate inside from outside so long as you are close. I don't get it. Any ideas?

If you have key-less start, can your car start if you stand just outside the car with the window down? lol

I have to say I am disappointed. I had to miss the beginning because my computer kept freezing. i thought they would have the courtesy to put up a video for those who missed it.

Secondly, he said today was the day we could configure and look at prices etc. So far nothing.

This just isn't very thoughtful or professional. I can see if they are purposely not releasing the live video to keep the "live" feel important but failing on the configurator with no explanation is really weak.
