2011 X5 50i vs. 35i Premium. Exact differences?

Looking at the 35i Premium and 50i and trying to figure all the specific differences.

I thought the 50i might include a few extra things as standard, but found that apart from two pieces of trim (grille and exhaust tips), it actually has a slightly less included when compared to the 35i Premium (though obviously more than the 35i base).

Here's what I've come up with:
The X5 50i is identical to the 35i Premium except the 50i has:
  • Different engine with more HP/Torque (400/450 vs. 300/300)
  • Different front grille.
  • Different exhaust tips (oval/square vs. round).
  • Different standard wheels (18" 210 vs. 19" 334)
  • Privacy glass tint not included (requires rear climate package).
  • Brushed aluminum interior trim available as no cost option.
  • Different configurations of optional packages.
  • $6,800 increase in sticker, $6,260 increase in invoice.
Any other differences?

BTW I've seen a 35i with M sport pack and it had the rectangular exhaust tips.

Yes I thought this was 5.0i-only, but apparently not. If you configure a 3.5i w/msport on BMW USA's site, you'll notice the exhaust tips are the same as on the 5.0i.

Visually then there's only the badging to distinguish the 5.0i from the 3.5i when wearing the msport bits.

Maybe I'll debadge mine then. Better to surprise those who think they've got something quicker. Like the Lexus suv the other night who sought to deny my assuming the lead lane position :-)

I will be getting the BMS JB3. I think that will level the playing field between the 35i and 50i. And hopefully keep the fuel milage. and a few hundred pounds lighter. And all for under 500.00 from what I understand. JMO

You can probably "tune" quite a bit more into the V8 as well, opening the gap again. But I agree... 500HP+ in a high CG SUV IMHO isn't necessary or nearly as much fun as 250HP in a lightweight low CG vehicle, or 125 HP on a moto! 300HP plus another 50-75 from tuning should do quite nicely.

I want my X5 to have "more than adequate" power for passing, mountain driving, towing my motorcycle trailer and highway-entrance-ramp-light-drag races :-)

I have other ways than the X5 for satisfying my need for ultimate speed.

Me too. I think 350/375 is plenty for this lill' suv and with the tune, the minimal lag it has should go away.

I have my TT Cobra if I really wanna stretch some legs out...so to speak

I don't have another vehicle that serves that purpose. I had five motorcycles at one time, several of which were faster than anything you'd ever find on four wheels for less than half a million dollars. I am very very interested in the Dinan upgrade for my X5. To me nearly 500hp and 570+ lb-ft of torque are just what the doctor ordered ;-)

On the other hand, I don't find it lacking in the current configuration. It just could be better.
