Edit: I thought this news had come from a salesman, but I know see that BMWNA has told a couple of folks in emails this schedule. Look forward to the info!

Competition is good. Without the GLK and the Audi Q5, BMW would have just chosen to inch their price up by $1000 every year. In 2005 (end of 2004) it was $36, 600 starting for an X3. Now it is $38,850. Not bad for 6 years. I'm sure it would be $42,000 without them.

I'm sure the poor economy helped but competition also contributed. I know they don't want to show a "4" as in $40, 000 when all the other competitors are showing "3". For this reason, I don't expect it to go over $39, 850.

The starting price is a scam anyway. When you finish it'll be at least $50K (probably 63K if you are not paying cash). All they have to do is hide all the price increases in the upgrades...like premium package...who is not going to get the premium package? Nickle and dime, nickle and dime...lol

What the press should do for the consumers to try to help is come up with a "nickle and dime index" to see which companies are most guilty of offering a starting price that is garbage. Maybe to avoid going on that list, more would start making more things standard.

I hope they keep the Gray Poplar wood trim. It is a nice idea. They didn't have that back in the day. At that time I was against the wood look so I actually tried to order the blushed aluminum but I was told later I had to pick wood because you could not get the aluminum with the premium package. I actually don't like the aluminum anymore and wood doesn't look bad but that Gray poplar wood is the perfect compromise.

It looks like they are adding the Mineral Silver as an option. That would look nice with black interior and Gray Poplar Wood trim.

Darn. I just went to the Germany website to see the interior options. It looks like they are getting rid of the gray poplar wood and they are bringing back the brushed aluminum.

It looks like they are also adding a new trim called "Satin Silver Matt"

That shows a really pretty light wood I am sure you have to buy that option though. I agree, I do not like the brushed aluminum at all and paying around $45,000 I expect wood in my car!

Yeah...the light wood is not bad on the eyes but I don't like that they added more of it everywhere (over glove, doors, etc). It does look nice on the central panel. If it were just there I'd go for it.
