1988 735i driveshaft
I am new to being a beemer owner, although it is a 1988 it has nice lines and still looks good. I am trying to fix everything wrong with it and now comes the next problem. I started noticing a vibration at 35 mph so I dropped the driveshaft and the front u-joint (by the transmission (automatic) is shot. I am being told that you get just replace the u-joint you have to exchange it for a rebuilt. Is this true? I'd figured that after 22 years there would be a after market u-joint or some cheaper alternitive. If there isn't a cheaper fix, can anybody post some vendors that I can buy a exchange driveshaft from and the average price I should be paying. Thank you all for you input

the joints are non serviceable, so yes, the entire driveshaft must be replaced. you could look at bav auto, and a few other site sponsors, or try ebay.
once you find a potential vendor, i suggest doing a little research on them to get a consensus. i also suggest a new guibo and bolts as well. good luck. df
