Problems filling up gasoline

thank you filon, il call up the dealer tomorrow and find out more info on it. il report back here about my findings.

This is my first post since I bought my bimmer (E38 728i) for £1060 just last week. I'm also having the same issue with the fuel cutting out - so I wondered how you got on when you contacted the dealer and whether you managed to fix the problem?
I'm also going to try the other suggestions too.

As an aside I also had a similar issue with a 3.5Efi Vogue Range Rover I once had, although I got much more fuel in that in one go than I do with the bimmer.

hey artavash, i went to the dealer and decided not to pay the $160 to get it diagnosed (on a problem i can deal with), and my indy just said to keep driving it like this because it would be too expensive to fix or even hunt down. ive tried what was suggested here and it hasnt worked .

did you buy the actual part or no? (charcoal canister)

not yet because i have no idea on how to put it in

Well, here is what i found, hope it helps:



* Remove rear left wheel.
* Remove rear left wheel trim.



Loosen activated-carbon filter.



NOTE: Release the connections for the intake pipe and tank ventilation before pulling off with special tool 16 1 050.



Layout of Connections :

1. Ventilation
2. Suction tube to engine
3. Tank venting

Disconnect connections (1 ... 3)

Part #, and misc:

Evaporative Emission Control Canister

I also have had problems with my car's fuel system...

I had the fuel pump replaced last year, and now, I can hear the new pump whining the same way the old pump did when it was failing...

Also, last year, when I was filling-up the car at the gas station, the pump did not shut-off, and shot gas all over the side of my car...!
This happened again about 1 month later...

I am wondering if the over-flow of gas may have damaged the Charcoal Canister and/ or the Fuel Vent Pump (Leak Detection Pump - #12) connected to the Charcoal Canister...?

I have this problem on my wagon. Does anyone know what causes it? Pulling it out and trying to find the sweet spot does not work. I have to barely squeeze the handle or it will cut off. Does a problem with the charcoal canister cause this? It is enough to drive me crazy!
