Just learned two via RTFM....

Pulling the "flash to pass" lever after you turn off the car actvates the headlights for the pathway lighting.

Pushing the turn signal lever passed the resistance point when the car is off activates parking lights on that side only.

The dash airvents have a detent in the middle of their travel so that you know by feel when the vent is pointing straight ahead.

Wondering whether the battery would survive a night with that much light on up front.

>>However, it appears the feature is coming soon. Check out the following link and press release. It appears to be authentic.

I was hoping this feature was there in my 2010 535xi. But I just bought a Blackberry Torch (which has OS6) and the e-mail integration is not there. It IS there in the 2011 model. You can check exactly which features are supported with your phone here:
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...hframedin.aspx

Just type in the last 7 digits of your VIN and the bluetooth version number (click the little i icon and it will tell you how to get that from your idrive) and you'll know exactly what features are supported with your car. If you choose the "i am interested in a vehicle" option and then select a car and carrier, it will show you the 2011 models. Choose 5 series sedan, AT&T, and select the Blackberry Pearl 3G (which also runs OS6) and you'll see a green dot next to e-mail.

For my car, I have bluetooth 9224421 and the list of office features like e-mail isn't even listed. I'm hoping BMW adds this in a software update to idrive, but it may be due to lack of bluetooth feature support in the hardware. Again, I'm hoping they offer a way to upgrade that. I wrote BMW an e-mail asking about it a few weeks ago, but haven't received a reply.

That's a great link. There are 8 phones listed for my car and I don't have 1 of the tested phones. Good information though.

Yes, it is a useful link. But, my old 2-3 year old Verizon LG phone isn't listed as supported at that link while in fact, all Bluetooth features are supported for my phone except for text messaging. Perhaps, that compatibility tool is primarily intended to apply for relatively newer model devices.

They seem to test a small group of phones.

So, this was an accidental find! The car will not shift out of park with the gearshift to the left (manual). The P on the shift lever will only flash at you.

I must have bumped it while leaning over searching for something on the passenger side and I couldnt get the car in reverse this morning. Live and learn!

you can program the buttons numbered 1 through 6 for specific features such as set the nav unit to take you home, specific radio/sat stations etc. Also, like my 7 the front headrests have wings that come out to prevent your head from rolling around while your passenger is trying to nap and you are having a spirited driving moment.

I found out that if you have an Iphone 3gs, or later, & have ibooks enabled, you can download your owners manual, & any other PDF's that pertain to your bmw (service bulletins, articles, etc.), and have them always handy on your phone. I don't know if other brand phones that have the ability to download & store PDF's can also use this feature. It's cool. Manual is always handy, makes good bathroom reading! haha

When listening to music, etc. on an iPod via the auxiallary port, you can fast forward or fast reverse through the currently playing selection by pressing and holding the advance/reverse buttons on the steering wheel or on the dash.

The car looks like a 2010 on the outside if the right parts were changed out.

Only for Manual Transmission cars......with the cruise set, you can shift gears without losing the setting. Pressing in the clutch on most cars will cancel the cruise, the BMW doesn't. If you just push the clutch in and hold it, it will cancel the setting in about 10 seconds or so, and let you know with a "DONG".

dude honestly, please shut the **** up now.. i'm really sick of you.. you've stated before that your a humble guy, now all you do is go around and talk about making people think you have a 2010 by changing some parts in random posts that are irrelevant. we get it and nobody cares.. most of us here are driving BMWs because we enjoy them and how they drive; and not because of how people perceive us.

in the beginning you were cute, then annoying. now your just a ****ing douche

Wow dude! Take it down a 1k! We shouldn't hate on folks here. Ant has said some very relevant things also that i've read. We were all young once, & sometimes twice. I don't agree with everything he says, but same goes for me. I don't expect everyone here to be enamored with my posts. We can't make things so personal on here. I like reading all the posts here, whether or not it applies to me & my car. I've posted some nonsense on here, but as I learned about my car, and the etiquitte on here, its getting better. Let's try to educate, rather than hate.....

I discovered that if I hold the iDrive knob toward Nav it goes straight to the map thus avoiding all the menu clicks. Don't laugh - I've only had the car for five days.

Just had to mention it....

I learned that the HPFP issue had not been resolved as the sales representative had assured me prior to purchasing.

Excuse me if this is a repeated post.

Discovered I really like Adaptive Cruise. Not only will it accelerate when you turn on the turn signals, if the person ahead of you stops, it will bring the car to a full stop as well.

I experimented with this a while back. I just let my foot hover over the brake pedal, just in case. Sure enough it worked as described.

ALSO ...

If you are following someone, and another car slips between you and them, it will now back off and follow the new car at the proper distance.

VERY COOL !!!!!

Great Thread ........... THANKS !!!!!!!!

Craig

hahaha

I didn't get the BMW because of how people perceive, we got it because we needed a replacement for the 1999 Camry I hydroplaned in. It was either a new Corolla, a 2009 Camry, or the 2005 530i.

hi all,

sorry if this is a re-post........

just found out that if you push and hold the button marked "check" on the signaling lever, you will get a message on the front cluster saying "check ok!" and another one below the i-drive screen saying "no faults!" ....

this is cool if u want to check fault messages without going through all the i-drive options to get there...

great posts everyone, cheers

The question I have is, has it been resolved for the F10? Does the issue stop being a concern at XX model year?
