I can tune into HD2 and HD3 HD-radio stations where offered (I didn't even realize they were out there until after driving my car for a month), but only when the radio tuner is in manual mode, and by using the steering wheel tune up/down button. I can't tune them using the Idrive controller, or when in preset mode, and I can't set an HD2+ station as a preset. Seems like they should have designed more ways to tune in the HD2+ stations.

Start learning the voice commands.

I use 'Map ---- Direction of Travel' to get back to the map from anyplace.

Also, 'CD On' to turn the CD on, 'Track 1 (or whatever) to get to the appropriate track'

"102.7 FM" tunes the radio to that station.....

You need to speak a bit clearly, and learn the language. Easiest way to learn is to hit the voice command button (remember to always wait for the beep first) and then say 'options' The guy will then give you the list of commands that work from the current screen location.

You really do have an under hood light LOL.
It's in your I drive to check the oil level. There is nothing to see under the hood - day or night!!

AND..... I forgot - they gave you a flashlight in the glove compartment.

If you say: "sattelite channel" then the channel you want it will go there - but it only goes up to channel 100

I printed up the three, no four, pages of voice commands in the Owner's Manual and keep it in the door pocket. I read it at red lights. Didn't know about the "Options" option though - thank you for that tip!

But...but, if I have to suddenly add windshield washer fluid at midnight in the middle of nowhere...
My 14 year-old pickup truck has a light under the hood. No flashlight holding necessary. Hmm.

Just discovered 2 things this past Thanksgiving's 4 day weekend.

1) My low washer fluid light came on. I didn't know I could pour an entire gallon of washer fluid into the resovoir, and it still could have taken more!
2) When I turned on the cruise control for the first time, I didn't know a green light spins around the speedometer cluster to the set speed.

I just took my "new" 08 535 for its first highway excursion. How cool is that cruise control!?! I love that. It's going to take some getting used to it being on a stalk instead of the steering wheel, like my X3 was. But I'll catch on eventually. Man...what a ride on the freeway. Not only the nicest car I've ever owned, probably one of the nicest I've ever ridden in!

The Sirius satellite radio on my new to me 2008 550i was not active when I purchased the car. On Saturday I logged on to the Sirius web page and activated service, and then had them send the activation signal. I did this twice, no luck either time. So, today I called Sirius from the car, and the rep asked me if I was calling on my Bluetooth. I said yes, and he said that the activation signal would not be received if the Bluetooth was active. So, I hung up, turned of my phone, and voila, five minutes later, my satellite radio was working like a charm.

BTW, I was a bit surprised (and delighted) when one of the options on the Sirius web page was a free year of service. I'm not sure if this is because the previous owner never used it or not, but this was a nice surprise!

I just activated my 2008 535xiT for the "free year" of Sirius. I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted that on their website.

Once you go satellite, you never go back. I have 2 lifetime subscriptions-one on a removable radio and one in my B-
I discovered that the voice command feature to dial the phone doesn't like it when the sunroof is open.
I haven't used the cruise control yet in the 4 years I've owned the car because I didn't know how it would act when the car's out of gear-I coast before I brake, silly me..
BTW, I didn't catch the flame war, but you should check out the skiing and snowboarding forums if you like to see internet "blood"..

Oh, and I discovered that people assume when you mention you drive a car with a manual tranny, they assume you're in a 20 year old Honda Civic...

The cruise control is the best. I am sure you know that a tap forward or back increments my one mph, so two or three taps gives two or three mph changes in either direction. Pushing (or pulling) through the detent, gets you up (or down) to the next 5 mph. So, if you are at, say 67, and push through twice, you go to 70, then to 75.

Also, the CC holds speed going downhill, usually by cutting the throttle, but also by downshifting, or by braking if needed. On ED, I had to drop about 25 mph, so I yanked at that thing 5 times, and it was as if I hit the brakes quite firmly.

I know that feeling I just bought a 08 535i and I didn't think that I would love the ride as much as I do. I went from a 07 E550 Benz to the bimmer and there is no comparison the benz is so loud compared to the 535i. Im loving the new addition

Annoying Indicator Lights

I learned if you get trip odometer and clock resets that you most likely have a bad battery.

idrive and more

What I found:
* On idrive, instead of Menu - up/down/left/right to jump between idrive functions, you can simply move and hold up/down/left/right button to go the the menu directly. For example, move and hold the idrive to down will jump to entertainment
* Enable the 3 sec turn signal via settings
* Each key holds its own configuration including channel programming, HVAC settings, etc. Kinda annoying when I use the wrong key, my favorite radio channels aren't there anymore or not in the right order =)

When you put a 12-pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on the passenger seat, it will set off the seatbelt alert chime. WTF?

I do not have the comfort access key, I think holding down the Start/stop button will turn everything off, but it would be nice if it'll unlock my door too since i have the auto door lock after drive enable... darn it...

Otherwise, i'm stuck with this routine at the end of each drive:
* Stop button
* Push the key to release
* unlock all doors

I expect the next generation would be able to do all in one stop button and automatically push my ass up and help me get up quicker too...

The triangle plastic puller with string attach to it is not for closing trunk, it's emergency release in case kids got trap in there. The problem, how kids know to pull this in the dark to relase the trunk from inside?

Is there any other reason why the odomoter resets? If you use different keys, will that cause it to reset? Mine has done this twice but I can't figure out why.. the clock never resets.

It's supposed to glow in the dark. I know if I were trapped and saw something glowing and dangling, I'd pull on it too. :P

Then strap it in with the seatbelt!!! Besides, you really don't want it flying around in the event of an accident.
