When you say your comment I am sure you mean me since I was the camera Man, director and commentator

In regard to the 55mph line, it was a bit of play on words since what I was driving home was that I just came back from picking up my X5 diesel at the Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC and hit higher speeds on the track the we will be doing on the Turnpike

You are not alone, I find that more and more BMW owners came from Honda/Acura products... I think the reason behind is that both companies even though different are very similar....

case in point...

1. Both are independent and lead not follow in their respective segments
2. Both are engendering companies 1st and fore-most
3. Both make extremly high reving engines such as the origin SP1 S2000 9k redline and say the E9x ///M-cars
4. Both make some of the best motorcycles in the world

Now Honda is mostly FWD based with most offerings not having enough torque
Thats where BMW steps in....You want torque we got it, you want handling we got it...come on Honda Boys...and from that first drive your hooked...you say to yourself WOW this thing handles like its on rails...at that point you dont even care about the stereo type tha BMW's break often...you say to yourself this thing can break everyday...the driving experience is well worth it

For the record these are the Hondas I owned before moving to BMWs

1988 Honda Accord 4 dr LX (5-spd Manual) Blue
1990 Honda Accord 2 dr DX (5-spd Manual) Blue
2001 Honda Accord 4 drEX-V6 (5-spd Auto) Silver
2004 Honda Accord 2 dr EX-V6 (6-spd Manual) White -> see Avatar above
2005 Honda CR-V 4 dr SE (5-spd Auto) White
---> started with New BMWs at this point but still had a few more Honda Products such as
2009 Honda Civic 4 dr LX-S (5-spd Auto) White
2010 Acura MDX 4 dr Tech and Ent (6-spd Auto) Black

so as you can see from above I had and still have a love affair for Honda products..although at this point I can honestly state that Honda should stick to what it does best economy cars

I stopped paying attention to my gas receipts, as they were quite depressing, never mind the price of premium in summer 2008!

You think that's bad...I had a 2007 E70 X5 3.0si in Alpine White and was getting anywhere from 12.5 - 13.5 miles per gallon in the city since thats where I drive or drove most with it......so for the Fun Factor of the 4.8 you actually did better then me

I am not sure if you followed my latest PCD thread...located here....

...but I actually drove for 593 miles on an actual Tank and had another 19 in miles in reserve for a total distance of over 610 miles on one tank...I was averaging 30.9 miles per gallon....

here is the video on that...

dencoop - yours had 0 miles on the odometer at the time of delivery/fill up with full tank of gas ??? or your math is wrong

But in any case, the range is awesome... sometimes I go over a week without fill up (X had its 2-month b-day yesterday, and 2800 on the odometer!)

Yes, it's better to be on the east coast in that regard The production was complete on Friday. The car was all prepped on Monday and ready for the pickup

I am totally with you on this one... I love everything about it - the sound (surprised myself on that one!), the torque, the economy, the $4500 discount ... I was worried about fuel availability, but that is not the issue here in NJ, I consistenly find 2.73 - 2.79 per gallon in places I need to go (credit card price), with full service mandatory in NJ my hands are clean. The range is very nice, too.

And the prius owners can no longer bitch at me for owning a gas guzzler !!! (not that I cared on their opinion, but now feeling better about the environment)

I am completely in agreement on the diesel. I would have hated the mpg on the gasoline powered X5. But the diesel seems to be getting very good mileage- I've mostly done in town driving with my new x5, and I'm getting 23 MPG so far. (That's better than what I got out of my 330. The power is awesome, I have no complaints there! It's a different feeling than my manual transmission was so I'm still getting used to that- but boy when you hit the gas does she go!

There's still a lot of biased opinions about diesel though
Just yesterday, I had one of those "it's gotta be noisy and stinky", so I go like "Yeah??!?!" and hand him the keys. After making 3 circles around the block, he steps out of the car and going back to the exhaust and smelling for a few seconds. The guy goes to me: "How much can I get it for now?".

It was just unreal how biased people are and how the whole mentality changes after a 5 minutes drive

I drove up to my parent's house last night to show off the new car. Stopped in front of the garage and left it running. I was smiling and bragging about my "diesel" BMW, when my dad looked at me with shock on his face. He couldn't believe it was a diesel and it was still running when he made that comment. It does have a different sound to it, but by no means would I say that it's noisy- it's noticeable, yes, but I kinda like the sound! And I haven't noticed any "strange odors", as a matter of fact I'm kind of shocked that when I walk around the car, all I smell is new car smell!

My dad was the same way with the old school mentality of only trailer and tractors using the diesel. Now he is in complete shock of how much things changed

V8 performance at the I-4 gas economy... you can't beat that unless you give me V10-12 performance at the bicycle's MPG

Did I mention JBD is going to be installed shortly and my torque will be close to X5 M's?

My options are:

1. Dress 20's with all season tires and sell the stock ones
2. Use 20s in the summer and change the rubber on the 18s for the winter.
3. Leave stock and if I get sick of them get 20s next spring as option 2 to refresh the car

Due to all my expenses, I'll probably opt in for 3...
First priority is JBD

What are you doing with yours?
Well mine may not be the most 'reccomended' option, but I kept the summers on the 214s and ordered Pirelli Scorpions Ice and Snow in 20' mounted on 333M wheels. Most of my winter driving is near the city, with only a handful of trips up north. 20's with winter tires and x-drive should be fine IMO.
