745LI Remote Key not working

I have a 2003 745LI. The unlock function on the remote key stopped working. The remote locks and opens the trunk but doesn't unlock. Any ideas?

If the battery needs to be changed in the remote, how do I open the remote. Does the cover just separate? don't want to break anything ...

Thanks for the help.

You can change the battery if you have comfort access. Take the metal key out. Look at the area it covered and you'll see a slot about as big as the head of a screwdriver. Use a coin or a screwdriver inserted there and a small twist will pop open just the battery cover. You don't want to take anything else apart. Inside you'll see the watch battery. Get the number off of it (something like CR4476). Put it back together and buy one at a drugstore. Open it back up and swap it out ( note which side the + sign is on.) I was scared when I swapped mine, but it worked great.

keys aren't cheap as they are programmed car specific ! including any extra's you have built in like garage door facility etc !

Mein Auto: das good ya?
I had the same exact problem, everything worked except the unlock button. I decided to get a new key instead of trying to replace the battery by cracking open the remote. The new key was $203.14 for the remote, $48.60 for the cut key from Stevens Creek BMW. I didn't need an extra cut key but I figured might as well have two complete keys. It solved the problem and an extra bonus is that my remote range is extended by 2X+. It takes about 3 days to get the key after ordering it and once you do, you stick it in the ignition and it programs itself with all your car info (key does not lock/unlock until you stick it in the ignition and start it up once).

I have a 2005 745i whose remote does everything except lock the car. I can unlock it, open the trunk and the alarm button works. We just took it on a 9 hour drive so I was hoping if it needed recharging, this would help, but no go. I have to manually lock it with the key. We bought this car used so may not have any warranty left on the key portion. Help !!!!!
