Lighter aluminium doors on F10

I know that BMW uses aluminium in the doors of the new F10 to reduce weight.

Do the doors still close with a reassuring thud and give the impression of a solid car?

yes. The only thing that is a tad unusual for BMW is that if you close the door when the window is down the window rattles.

Are you serious? This would be more than a "tad unusual". I will need to check this out at my dealer. I test drove a 535 last week but I didn't think to try closing the doors with the windows down. My E39 certainly doesn't have this problem. Hard to believe the F-10 does.

F10 has a 5 star crash rating. Maybe one other car has reached this standard so you can be asured it has a very strong side structure.

i think the doors seem secure, but perception is confirmed by the safety rating - so they definitely did that right
