E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Master cylinder replace (brakes)

I just put on two front calipers but now I'm thinking my problem goes deeper. While I was bleeding, I felt some funny action in the pedal, a little popping feeling, like it's riding over something, has to be master cylinder I'm thinking. I like this car but I'm nearing 330K, not sure I need a top of the line new master.

Anybody know what re-mans are good and which to avoid? O'Reilly's has a "Cardone" brand, about $120, I'm guessing that's a no.

**EDIT** I'm almost embarrassed to add this part - I'm not even sure if this is ABS or not. It doesn't look like ABS systems I've seen in the past but I think it might be. I've not felt the ABS effect much but now and then I think I do.

If you look in your engine compartment just behind the D/S headlights you should see a squarish metal block with about 6 brake lines attached to it. It usually has a plastic cover that says ABS but regardless, if you have a mass of brake lines going into a contraption between the headlight and strut tower you have ABS.

I've never felt the ABS pulse on my '87, however, I've never locked up a wheel...

That's what I did. Gave me a stiffer pedal....

Hmm, increased stiffness, could use some o' that now and then . . .

(you young whippersnappers just wait)

No but hey, all seriousness aside, that sounds intriguing. Yet one more reason why I should get the new used engine into my old Benz ('81 300SD). I need a daily driver so I can lavish more time on my Beemer which I'm going to run into the ground if I'm not careful. It's a little past the broke in stage now. I'm no longer going 1K between quarts of earl so I may actually have to get the valves done and get new rings in it one day.

I wondered about that. Do you have to plug up some lines? I rarely venture into icey realms - ABS is sorta as uselss as the proverbial **** on a boar hog around here.
