Exclamation '04 X3 140K miles; alternator bad?

Woke up this morning, could not start my car. Symptoms of a dead battery. Removed battery, took to mechanic, charged it, tested it, said it was fine. Mechanic is pointing to a possible alternator malfunction. Are alternators on the X3 known to go out around this mileage? Should I be looking into something else?

I would suggest to take your car to a battery shop where they can test your alternator. It can go bad at 140K miles, probably just need maintenance.
