MPG's for 550iX?

600 miles in and I am averaging only about 15.5 -16 mpg. I live in the NY City but do most of my driving out of the city (at least 90 percent).

Should I expect improvement as I add more miles or is this reality?

What are others w 550iX experiencing?

Sounds about right for a 550i to me!

I live in NYC too and have averaged 13.8 mpg for about 800 miles since I got the car

I drive combined city and highway am averaging 19.5 miles per gallon in normal mode. If I drive in sport mode I average 13-15 mpg which is how I drive when I am on the back roads.

Pure stop and go NYC traffic. This is the reality. That's the rub about densely populated cities...you can't even use the power unless you get out on the open road.

I barely drive in the city - just to get out of it. I used to average about 21 mpg in my '08 535ix...

21ish on the highways (30 mile commute ) but when back in town its 17ish. Not in sport mode. When im in sport mode and drive it accordingly .. its more like an M5 mpg.. but then again its behaving like one!

But the 550i has a huge V8 engine! It's never going to compare with a 535 in the economy stakes!

You will be surprised on a run it should be in the 30MPG range, 8 speed box keeps the revs Low.

I've gotten 17-18 with mixed driving. About what I expected.

17-21 depending on mix of hwy vs backroads of fairfield county, ct. almost always in sport mode

Yeah, I know but I was hoping with the more efficient V8, it might be a little closer to the old 535. Well, wishful thinking. Truth is, i'm not concerned about the cost of the gas so much as I am the environmental impact. I used to enjoy trying to get a little more out of my 535 all of the time while pushing the car pretty agressively. Now to take a 5-6 mpg hit is a little sad. BUT, all I have to do is step on the gas pedal, be thrown back into my seat, and the smile comes back pretty quickly.

I am averaging 15-16mpg with an average speed of 29mph. This is for a mix if city/ highway. When I head to NYC the numbers tank from there. The mileage is lower than I expected. I was averaging 16.5 on my S550 with a 5.5L engine and quite a few more pounds to move around.

Frankly the main gripe I have is having to fill the car up by 240 miles. It is a PITA. I used to love my average 330-350 miles per fill-up in my MB....

At 1150 miles, my wife has got 16.9 mpg the last few hours of city driving. Not bad for a TTV8. Got 25 mpg during a 73 mph strictly highway sprint of about 70 miles each way.

I'm getting 19 - 19.5 with about 80% highway and a heavy foot when not on the highway. I don't probabyl have sport mode on 1/3 - 1/2 of the time that I'm not on the highway.

Love this engine - what a great sound!

19.5 at 80/20 highway/city. At 5300 feet of elevation, btw. I can live with that!

What are you guys averaging for miles to the tank on your 550? I have mine on order and was hoping to at least get around 300 to the fill up.

My 528 is currently giving me 27.3 MPG after 5000 miles and seems to be getting better with each fillup. I'd say the 528 is pretty amazing for how heavy she is and how great she performs.

As I mentioned, I am averaging 240-250 miles. A bit short of what I would prefer....

I got 284 miles on my last tank. It was a mixed drive tank, maybe 40% of it Freeway.
