Question ED Winter Tire Rental Experiences?

Hi all,

On Jan 13 I'm picking up my 3rd ED 5er, a 550i M-Sport, at the Welt. I've been to Munich many times, even in January, and know that I can safely leave my flip-flops back in California. Unfortunately, Europe is experiencing its worst winter in a generation. Alas, the timing can't be helped.

German law requires winter or all-season tires on all cars from Nov-Mar., and the tires on my new baby will not qualify. So, I have two options: 1) sign for the car and leave it at Welt undriven for truck transport to Harms (most likely), or 2) avail myself of the winter tire rental program at www.edwintertires.com, drive it for a few days, and then swap the rental tires for the OEM set and leave it at Harms.

Does anyone have any experience with this tire rental program? It seems pretty well integrated with the Welt process, but I'd appreciate any feedback. Of course, if the roads are bad enough I won't risk driving it regardless.

Many thanks!

PS - if any of you are hesitating about using the ED option, DO IT. It is the ONLY way to buy a BMW. I'll never do it any other way again. A marvelous experience every time.

I used them , they are great. Your problem is they don't have any winter tires for 550i. At least they didn't as of few weeks ago. There is shortage in Germany. Check to see if they got any now.
