Exclamation What kind of motor could it be?

I have a little question for you guys! When my dad bought the car, the guy who sell it told us that the motor wasn't the original one, He told us that it was a BMW Z3 motor.. I'm just not sure about that.. I know that it's not a 318is, because one of my dad friend have one and his motor is smaller than mine.. But there's one thing I'm sure, this is not the original!

It's an m42...the stock 318 motor..

EDIT: please enlighten me what makes you so sure this is not the stock motor if you don't even know what you're talking about

^ his friend has an older 318 with an M10 in it...
so im guessing his rear deck lid is off a 325is, i would run the vin number and see what your car is supposed to be. I would bet money it comes back as a 318

i just responded on your other thread without seeing this one first btw

I realized that, but I don't understand how he was 100% positive it wasn't the stock motor if he doesn't know anything about e30s..like knowing the difference from a early model 318 to a late model 318.
