2003 Z4 87k miles need help??

My friend took his car to the dealer and the highest offer for his car is $6200.I have 2000 Miata with 137 k miles and thinking about replacing it.I think dealers offers are low.I am thinking about buying from my friend for $6400.Here's the info on the car.
He's the second owner have owned for 5 years.
3.0 in Blue it has 87k miles.
I took to inspection today it's need both rear rotors (pads are good) under bumper grill and undershield.
All 4 tires are 70% left.Two remote keys.The last service was 75kmiles.
It will be my weekend vehicle not daily vehicle. My concerns are following
1.At 87k miles Can I enjoy it for 2-3 years or I am looking for headache?
2.I am reasonable so If I set aside $1000 a year for maintenace and repair would that be enough?
3.Is 2003 a bad year because of first year production?
I think for $6400 I am getting a lot of car for the money.I have someone offering me $1000 for my Miata and for a ilttle over $5k from my pocket I can own ultimate driving machine

The first year is not much of a concern for me. There are only 2 features you will not have, Passenger window , one touch up and soft top down from the key. I put 153K on my 04 before I totaled it. The only big ticket items I replaced was the throttle body ( $800 ) , tires ( $1200 all 4 corners ), Brakes and rotors per axle ( $330 ), starter ( $275 ), DISA valve and flexible plastic intake tube ( $200 ), battery ( $ 100 ) You can cut some of these cost if you can turn a wrench or find yourself a indy shop to do the work. Do some preventive work as well, Clean the soft top drains ( save the motor ) There are all sorts of DIY instructions on the forums. Some of these items may have already been done as well. Shocks and trans/diff bushings are factors as well. Most are normal wear and tear items. Most of these issues came up after 120K.

How do you know you need rotors? I would be tempted to run them until you need brakes and replace them at that time. A water pump could be another issue, I never replaced mine in 6 years and 153k.

Good luck

I think it sounds good. I wouldn't be afraid to buy it for $6400 - book is about $10-12k. Buy it, plan on $2000 in 1st year maintenance, and have the time of your life. There is a thread detailing what items to check/change on or at about 100k miles. Do a search on this forum and it will give you an idea as to what should be done to prevent some common problems. Might want to take it to an independant shop to get an inspection done - that will also identify potential repairs.

If it still looks and runs good at 87k miles, $6,400 is a small price for the thrill you can have with the Z!

Thank you everyone.I bought it and I took it to my friend's shop and he will put a Brembo rear rotors for me for $250.I will have him work on basic items but for major items I will take it to BMW specialist.
I will take it to details and can't wait for spring.
