Transer case noise

I have a BMW 2002 X5 3.0L which already runs 160,000.00 miles. Recently the underneath of the car makes noises when I accelerate it. The dealer says the transfer case needed to be replaced. The part cost $2300.00 plus $650.00 for the labor.
Is there any way to repair it or to replace it cheaper? Please help
