I have a bmw x5 04 plate it was freezing cold -5 today when i went to start her after being left all day
it started as normal and a light came on saying low oil pressure stop engine or something like this so i did i checked the oil all was fine and so tried to restart no light was on so drove home aprox 30 mins and car was fine so whats the problem?? was it because it was cold or a faulty sensor? all answers and help apreciated Many thanks Julian |

Can be just a cold weather, can be a sensor too, but if your car runs normal keep driving, if problem come back you may need to check sensor, PM me if you have same problem again.

There have been story's about the crank case valve freezing and causing engine damage. BMW offers a cold crank case valve kit for this problem. Water build up in the valve can freeze, then pressure builds up and blows the oil cap off or more. I have read about valve covers coming off over this. You did the right thing by shutting off and letting any warmth set in. It's good to just let your baby warm up before driving off.
