Finally picked up my "special" X5d

I'm not a SUV/SAV type of guy but I must admit I'm pretty impressed with the X5. I've been tracking cars (mainly M3's) for over 15 years now and if you told me that the X5 would handle similarly, I would have thought you were crazy.

I'll write up a review some time in the future I guess. picked it up the 29th of December. Rather than list all the options, let's just say it has every option except rear entertainment. Note: Active Ventilated seat option is not available in nappa leather so I did not get it and probably would not have anyway since I was never impressed with it. There are 3 additional options, one of which you cannot see. Let's see if you can spot the other two. The third is soft close doors.

You have either walnut amarone or figured eucalyptus trim - an individual trim. Doesn't look like walnut or poplar. (pics are hard to tell, though).

Individual sound. (that one is almost unnoticeable, since the only way you can tell is the silver ring.) Out of curiosity, how much is that option vs. premium sound? Any individual cost other than options? If none of those, you overpaid for options that have gone unnoticed. Or you need to take better pics.

BMW Individual High End Audio (aka: EPS in the US) was $2050
Soft close automatic doors were $625

The post below yours pretty much summarizes it. Nothing outrageously special. Catching the silver ring required a good eye!

I will say the sound is better in the X5 over my 335d which both have the same option.

I would have done a custom color but there wsn't enough time because I had to take delivery before year end. Tons of tax benefits!

Sweet Individual trim, and I'm pretty sure the Individual Sound is pretty spectactular. Great vehicle.

Let us know how well the Lane Departure Warning works.

Can someone provide more details about the Individual Premium sound? I really love that Eucalyptus trim.

I've been itching for some piano black, but I don't think the X5 is elgible for US BMW individual is it? I believe the only difference between individual sound and EPS is the drivers, and a slight wattage increase - number of speakers stays the same I believe. EPS = $1900. I'd pay the extra $150 for the individual. Does the lower end sound any cleaner on the individual? That's my only complaint for the US EPS.

Lane departure worked perfectly. I had a very long drive home from the dealer. My cousin was with me but he couldn't stay up so I ended up driving quite late. I turned it on and noticed the wheel did vibrate several times which was a big warning for me. Next exit was a motel and that's where I headed.

Over the summer my wife and I took the kids on a little trip in our VW Jetta TDI. We decided to leave at night to beat the traffic home. For some reason I was really tired that night and noticed that I was not staying in my lane. My wife drove the rest of the way but I could tell she was tired too though she was fine to drive. I knew our next vehicle would very likely be the X5 and I swore that this would be high on my list. With a 3 year old and a 6 month old, it was a no brainer.

Actually I had also asked for the climate comfort windscreen and after BMW AG approved it I was told I had to make a choice between that and lane departure. My choice was obvious.

So you went through BMW AG to personalise your X5? MMmmm sounds tempting.

The Climate Comfort windscreen is nice (have a similar one on our 325i due to replacement) but it has one major drawback: it greatly reduces radar detector effectiveness to the front.

Officially it is not available here in the US. You need to really have some strings pulled for you to get it done. There is quite a bit of difference between the Individual sound and premium. Speaker, amp etc....

The lower end is really good but it is not meant to rattle the neighbor's house. It has excellent separation, clarity and direction. You hear instruments and sounds you never knew existed. One caveat - GARBAGE IN _ GARBAGE OUT! Don't expect radio, SAT, compressed music to sounds excellent. I have a 240 GB Hard rive with ALL lossless CD's on it. That's over 500 cd's and the sound is superb.

I'm sure my location has a lot to do with my impressions of ventilated seats.

Now the real question is why BMW doesn't also offer the climate comfort windscreen especially for people in your neck of the woods. Makes no sense.

Ironically today the only car that has it is the 7 series hybrid. Go figure.

i like that color combo. navy blue and light tan interior always comes out classy. love the stitched leather dash as well.

Which lossless formats can the system play?

Jim E. you have some special floor liners, perhaps weathertech? How do you like them? Did you do research a few others and liked these best? I'm concerned about picking up extra dirt and debris from the small patch of dirt where I park every day. Any suggestions of liners vs mats?

How did you get soft close doors and the other options that aren't available on US cars?

The mats are fine but I don't like the fact that they are short. What I mean is where your feet go near the firewall. It seems they make them too short.
