Shuffle Songs on iDrive?

Does anyone know how to shuffle songs from your iPod/iPhone through the iDrive? I can't find an option anywhere when trying to play music...

While your iPod playlist is displayed on the screen, push the OPTION button on the iDrive controller and check the RANDOM box.

Bumping this to the top. Is there a way to Shuffle an iPhone's entire contents, or do you need to have playlist created to do so?

I assigned the "random" option to the #6 button. Now I don't need to go 2 steps deep to shuffle.

Based on that I assume "random" is resets every time the car is powered off?

It does in my car. Randomly. Sometimes it turns random off.

I usually have the display on current playback but lately it's been reverting to displaying the first first song alphabetically irrespective of the song actually playing.

In my experience, it simply picks up where I left off, and the songs remain "randomized". A pet peeve though is that it seems there's no way to keep songs random by default when starting a new playlist. I have to randomize a new list each time. What I've resorted to doing was to arrange the songs alphabetically in iTunes so it turns out that way in my iPod. This way, the artists are sorted almost like well, random.

Slick indeed. I couldn't resist trying it. Simply highlight the "random" tick box, and hold down the 6 button for, well, until something happens. Voila, a one step randomizer. Genius.
