The old version (i assume this is a new one) said it covered 03s by extension. The m54b30 didn't really change. Geez, they do a good job of making it sound good.

I got mine from Amazon for about $70 for the two volumes. IMO that's about all they're worth.

I am used to Haynes Repair series which cost about $15-20 on amazon.com etc.
Bentley is very detailed and excellent but at $110-150 range, it is way over-priced. Good for a shop that specializes in BMW.
For the average Saturday mechanics like most of us here, you don't really need Bentley because virtually everything you can ask/need help has already been discussed here.

they actually mention that the V8's a covered now .. used to be the issue before they only covered the 6bangers.. might be interesting to see difference

I know most of this stuff covered in the manual will be on here but it is always nice to have a handy manual laying around to refer to things right then and there. For $170 though, that is a bit pricey... Although it may be worth it to some =x

I think the paper Bentleys I have are overpriced, yet I've used them a few times.

But, in reality, the DIYs here are better than the Bentleys.

It amazes me that someone like Beisan, cn90, or Fudman can write a better DIY than those in the Bentleys. I even think my text DIYs are vastly better (longer anyway) than what is in the Bentleys, considering we do it for free and they get paid for writing this stuff up.

Come to think of it, the Bentleys are horrid, compared to the stuff we write (of course, we use the Bentleys for some of the technical information).
- Are the Bentleys nearly as useless to you as they are for me?, by bluebee

Still, the Bentleys are recommend ... less and less so as time goes on since they don't improve their DIY procedures and we improve ours.
- Where to get Bentley manuals

PS: Maybe I should short the publisher and make myself some money!

The main reasons forums are better than Bentley because:
- We do these DIYs with a passion, the Bentley people write the book for money.
Whenever you do anything in life with passion, you will do well.
- The pictures are colors, not B&W.
- Each DIY has tons of different ways to do things aka "there is more than 1 way to skin a cat" kind of thing.
- We include the experience such as Bilstein, Sachs, Koni struts etc, which you will not find in Bentley.
- We post our feedback on a particular product, for example, I tell people I am into my 5th year of "Hepu" Water Pump with zero issues. Bentley does not have this info.
- We post unexpected issues such as recent Behr reservoir with a flap, who in the world would expect to see this poor Quality Control from Behr?

But as I said above, if Bentley is $15-20, I will buy it, but at $110-150, forget it.

Herein is the value of this community. Added to this is the benefit of someone offering their time and physical assistance to help a member in need on occasion. That doesn't come in any book (and I'm a voracious reader).

If this site would allow, I may be able to get a german car repair manual made up entirely of the DIY's with pictorals from a local vocational school here in Indy and perhaps sell them to the members here on the site with all of the proceeds going to the site to either enhance it or help out the sponsors minus the cost of materials from the school? I dont know about all the stipulations regarding rules and regulations to get this done but it is just a thought. Maybe all the proceeds could go to a charity. Of course all of the info would not be copyright infringement in anyway shape or form as it would come from common knowledge from the members? Just a thought. It may also help clear up some of the traffic on the site due to the redundant questions we get on here. Which I am definately guilty of.

There's lots of stuff to steal on the internet - music, movies, books, cc #s, etc. It all depends on your definition of right and wrong (and your fear of getting caught!)

You could extend that to stealing stuff from stores or people.

I'm not saying I'm not guilty either.

Looks like this forum is advertising for Bentleys to pay the bills.

I see where you are coming from there. Though I would call it sharing not stealing. Like when I used to copy friends tapes. Never sold them to make money. I would like it if I could help out my bimmer friends but I'm sure it would be frowned upon by moderators. However there are people on here who don't live in the US where it may be considered legal for them to share with friends. Its not like I'm trying to get copies of solidworks. All those I have where paid for and that is a 4000 dollar program.

For the record, today I needed an engine-computer-specific table for the P1 PCodes ... and my paper Bentleys are where I needed to look for it.
- Weird question ... Where are ENGINE-specific BMW P1xxx trouble codes anyway?

It turns out that your chance of finding the correct "P1" PCode tables on the net for your particular engine, transmission, and build date could be slim ... depending on the particular PCode you're looking up.

So, despite what I said above, I hate my paper Bentleys;.I love my paper Bentleys; and I even sometimes use my paper Bentleys!
