noises from alternator
I had to replace the alternator and my 96 328i and after replacing it with a brand new one it was making a whinning noise. when i cover the cooling duct it quiets down? makes my car sound stupid
 could i cover the duct?

No, take the 'new' alternator back and get it replaced. The bearings are no good. It should be nearly silent when operating.
