alright everybody, i had a 97 540i.. and on friday i bought a 00 M5. right away i love the more power...but i need more. i have a friend whose doing dinan software on the car tomorrow. looking for anything, any ideas it doesnt matter...so lets here what youve got.

More than 400hp?? You aren't going to get a measurable amount of additional hp without forced induction. I got intake and exhaust for the sound, did it add power? A little. Do I think I can feel the difference on the street? Not really.
If you just moved to 400Hp and you are already not satisfied, I don't know if you would be happy once you got to 500hp.

If you need more, buy an E60 M5 or an M6. Not sure they feel faster though.

Absolutly correct. You need to consider several things rather than just additional power.
I've attached a link showing the path that many M5 owners are taking; an ESS supercharger. It gets you to around 550 HP dependent on the one you pick. However, there are several things recommended before you add the SC. First freshen up your engine if it is high mileage; install larger clutch, some are even replacing their rod bearings which seem to be a wear item in the e39 if run at high revs or if the car has been chipped. There are several threads on the ESS superchargers in use. As Dalekressin says it's not just the power; so if you haven't upgraded the suspension, I'd do that as well. Some also go with Stoptech brakes but you don't have to do this unless you're really going to push the 550 HP. Lastly, get rid of the cheap rear sway bar brackets that crack from the stock torque. A 2000? The MAF is probably shot.
Use the secret menu and see if you can get close to 140 liter/hour number. If not, there's your problem.

just got my 2002 M5. I am new to used car. I have a 2008 550, but really like to try the M5 (manual). What type of intake and exhaust did you change? How much did you spend? I am looking for information on how to fix up my M5 alittle. Thanks. |

Fahrschule = better bang for the buck than intake and exhaust.
