Manual Gearbox problems?

Asking on behalf of a friend of mine:

My 2005 M3 has ~90,000 miles on it. The last set of rear tires seemed to wear down very fast (like 15,000 miles or less). Also, the clutch has seemed to weaken/loosen for a few months now, but just yesterday the shifter seems to have gotten much looser. It wobbles around in the gear box more. Feel like somethings wrong with either the clutch, the transmission or both. Any clues?

It's possible that the bushing for the shift lever wore out - I've heard of the shifter being quite wobbly when this happens. Pretty cheap to fix iirc

As TerraPhantm said above, shifter play most likely means that the shifter bushings need to be refreshed.
Any other symptoms?
Is the clutch slipping? E.g., if you put it into 4th or 5th on the highway and jab the accelerator, do the revs climb without the car's speed climbing appropriately?
Does the clutch pedal vibrate noticeably?
