Smoker's package with dash 12V outlet and cover - now shipping?
I just picked up my 2011 M3 E93 at the Welt. It had the smoker's package including the 12V outlet and cover. Is this a recent change?

Standard car. I don't think it's a chargeable option.

Cool! I can't remember if they ever removed those items from the M3 though? (EDIT: guess they did as the configurator on BMWUSA shows the M3 vert interior w/o the smoker pkg). Hopefully this change is trickling down to the regular 3 series as well (Though they really shouldn't have been de-contenting a 70k+ 3 series to begin with)

The ashtray and power outlet for the 3 series are only available on the M3 models.

partially true - my 2011 335i doesn't have an ashtray, but there is a power outlet just to the left and slightly below the glove box. perfect for a temporary install of a radar detector.

I think they all have the outlet under the glovebox now right? I had a loaner the other day and that's really a pain to use. I know some folks like that hole for some reason, but I'm glad I have the covered ashtray and power right there.

There's less decontenting with the M cars. You pay more and its a lower-volume vehicle, so BMW doesn't see much need to cut corners. Just like how the Merc S-class and BMW 7er still have proper amber LEDs for turn signals.

It's legal, because it only holds 6-round capacity magazines. Which basically can be used in only your .32 and .25 califber gats.

The M3 and the higher series still have the ashtray and lighter which makes it clear they removed it purely for cost savings reasons.

I found this at Home Depot over the holidays for $4.80. A rechargeable 12V LED flashlight.
![]() Works perfectly in the power outlet in the passenger footwell. It provides a faint blue light when its charging.

The heck? There's a power outlet in the passenger footwell? Is this on 335's only? I have not seen that in my '11 328. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough...

Whoa, I just found that thing. Awesome. You know, I hard wired my radar detector immediately, but thought I might have to go with it plugged regular for 1 weekend while I drove out of town. I kept thinking it would suck to have that cord running down the center, and never once thought about where the power outlet might be. I didn't even think about the fact I have no ashtray/lighter in front of the shifter.
Good to know I have a power outlet there, thanks! |
