BMW 5-Series (E60 chassis) was first seen in the Unites States in the fall of 2003 with a 2004 Model Year designation. The E60 is now available as a 528i, 528xi, 535i, 535xi, 550i and a 535xi sports wagon! -- View the E60 Wiki |

Navigation DVD and multichanger question
Purchased a E60 2004 BMW 330i this week, the vehicle has done 46K miles. The car has had 6 BMW main dealer service and drives like new.
After driving away from the showroom noticed the message "insert map DVD" on the idrive display panel. Returned to the showroom and asked the salesperson whether the DVD was inside the DVD player, he said yes and then proceeded to "reset" the system and said it would start working in about an hour. After arriving home I realized there was no DVD inside and tried to test the DVD player by inserting an audio CD in the single slot player, however the audio CD did not appear in the idrive display and I could not hear any audio. Question: Does the nav DVD slot play audio CD? Have also visited the BMW dealer and the parts department's attendant loaded bunch of DVDs from various years but none of them eliminated the "insert map dvd" message. Question: Do I need the exact same DVD that the vehicle was sold with to get the nav to work? or the DVD mechanism is just faulty? The removable part of CD multi changer in the glove compartment is also missing (the part that holds the CDs) Question: I have been quoted £100 by a parts dealer for the multichanger unit. If I install this unit in the car will it just work or is there any programming or other steps installed?? Thanks, |

Question: Does the nav DVD slot play audio CD?
Yes, It does. Atleast on my 2009 528i. Question: Do I need the exact same DVD that the vehicle was sold with to get the nav to work? or the DVD mechanism is just faulty? You can load a upgrade Navigation DVD but it goes through the initialization process when you load it the first time. If you are inserting other DVDs such as movies etc, it has trouble recognizing those DVDs. I tried to load some movie DVDs but I got an error message saying unsupported DVD format or something similar. I am confused about the part where you mentioned : E60 2004 BMW 330i I thought E60 was the chassis for the 5 series. 330i means 3 series which uses E90 chassis. Am I missing something here. ? DVD and multichanger
I have 530i ....not a 330i as I mentioned in my original post.
Any idea about the multichanger issue? The removable part of the mutlichanger is missing from the glove box. Can I just by this part from a breaker and get it to work or is there any programming or other steps needed? My DVD nav slot does take an audio CD but doesn't play it..so shall I just assume that the DVD/CD player is faulty? |
