Do you mean the remote/button on the actual key?

Remember, the remote is programmed to open the doors/trunk ,etc. and then the key has a chip to start the car.

I have never heard of anyone doing this reprogramming stuff without going to the dealer.

It is possible to get a good dealon the key, and then go to the dealer for programming.

I would just go to the dealer and get a key made. Costs a little more I am sure but at least you know it works.

Hello I went to the dealer last week. What the service manager told me to do is put the key in the ignition slot ,holding it there and the system will program itself. But you has to make sure you get the right key remote. The FCCID: number is LX8766S but there for different type 7 Series car. Ones for the 745 and 750/760. The correct for the 745LI is: Manufacturer Part Number: BMW 6 936 573 and the one for the 750/760 is: Manufacturer Part Number: BMW 6 959 044-01. I hope this will help you...

I bought one from Ebay and went to the dealer to get it activated, they told me they can not do that, the only way for me to get the keys to work is to order it from them, so the $70 I spent on the extra key is useless.......

In this scenario, it seems that stealing a car would be much easier. Get in the car, put in your ebay key fob, program it and you are off. Maybe it is that easy.

In my experience, I was told to order a new key (non-comfort access) from BMW. I did. It came to the dealer (next day air) and it required a simple programming procedure done by the service manager, similar to what you described.

Ok here is my question I have like (5) Key remotes that I purchase from online. The remote from what I were told work fine. I were told by the BMW Dealer service department that all I need to do were put the key in the iginition slot and it would program itself. However that is the case I got a message back on my dash saying wrong key. So I just want to know if I sent you my keys what other information do U need to program my keys for my BMW., Also what is your cost to do this. I really were trying to have a spare key on hand. I also ask a auto shop here that work on all imports BMW, Mercedes etc;; and they were telling me it could be the program module gone bad.. So please let me know if you can help me.. Here is my cell 803-466-1052 call me Delano Jones

As far as I know, you cannot purchase remotes from the internet and program it to your car. I was told every bmw made has 10 keys which are in Germany. 2 keys are given with the car when it is first delivered. If you need a replacement you have to get it from Germany. The dealer then programs it to your car by placing it in the keyslot for a few minutes.
