Not to mention that a X3 20d in Europe equipped the same as a base 35i here costs approximately US$10K more. Of course, they can buy a M3 for less and get it much faster.
Such is the global economy.

Just wait until they start producing BMW's in China.

Actually the M3 sedan in Germany starts at 67k so no, it's not cheaper there.

BMW has been making BMWs in China for quite a few years now for the local market. They have a 5er long-wheelbase to accommodate local preferences. Unfortunately, Audi/VW still has a stranglehold on the luxury car market there.

That's because Diesels are always "slower" than petrol cars (unless the Diesel is an Audi R15 TDI).

Well, part of it has to do with the fact it has to be shipped 6-weeks across the Atlantischer Ozean. It has nothing to do with the diesels, that we can't have.

Obviously, you missed my pathetic attempt at humor ie: Diesels being slower as in "0 to 60 mph"). Nothing to do with the time it takes to drag them across the pond.

If your X3 went into production on Fri(1/28), it should be ready by Mon 31st. Why do you have to wait until 23rd for PCD delivery?

I scheduled the February 23 delivery date shortly after I placed the order. PCD told me not to schedule my travel until three weeks prior to the scheduled delivery date since production schedule changes could occur. It appears that they will have it built just about three weeks prior to my arrival. I anticipate that they'll confirm that everything is on track this coming Tuesday. Then I'll book my one way air travel.

Mine went into production on Friday too. Wonder when it will get here. CA told me 5-6 weeks. Kinda hard to believe.

It sounds like you ordered your X3 on the week of 17th and it'll be built by Monday(31st). Wow, that's fast. I ordered my on the 19th and still no word from my dealer. I was told that maybe next week I'll hear something. I am hoping to get mine delivered by end of February.

My dealer wrote the order on Saturday January 15 and it was submitted on Tuesday January 18th due to the holiday on the 17th.

ordered Jan 6 ( dealer changed one of their existing order )
Jan 7, got email from CA, status changed to 112 ( ready for production any day ) so we had to make sure no more changes on order.
Jan 24, it entered production.
Jan 29, completed production, video email received.

Hey thanks for giving us an update on the ordering process and time. Sounds like about 4-5 wks from order to delivery. I guess I am still on track for end of Feb delivery.

It all depends on the dealership. If you're lucky, 4-5 weeks from order to delivery. But if you're unlucky, like me, more like 8-10 weeks. I ordered mine on Dec 6th and it just went into production last friday.

Hey guys, how do you track the production? I got the VIN number, but I don't see anywhere on the BMWUSA website where I can track this.

Just create a My BMW account then add your car. It's pretty simple from there.

Did you order the 3.5 or 2.8 Model?

Hey Guys,

I'm confused. I was under the impression that the X3 35's were behind due to a backlog created by sluggish engine production. But, the 28 model production was humming along quite briskly.

Those of you who recently ordered your X3 and expect it later this month... how many of those are 3.5 models?

Or - have they caught up with the engine back log? Thanks.

Doug

I ordered 2 X2's 28 last weekend--both were slated for late March build, early April delivery (although the dealer confirmed today that he was able to push one up to the Feb build since my x6 crapped out and they are buying it back.) I have never ever waited 90 days for a car. . . .

Ordered mine on 12/5. Went into production 2/1. According to the 800#, it was finished today. Still have no idea how long to expect 'til I can take delivery.

Let's please try this again. For some time, the 35's were taking longer to build than the 28's because of engine backlogs.

When you give your order date and expected delivery date, PLEASE differentiate which one you are getting. Thank you!

Doug
