MID pixel problem-( pls help?

Hi pixels of the radio on my X5 have gone and i dont know how to fix it cheaply without having to buy a new MID. i was told to buy a new ribbon and put it on myself but not sure how hard it can be? if anyone had same problem or knows about it please let me know.

the ribbon thing isnt easy.theres this other guy on this forum that ruined his radio that way.i heard that if you actually take the mid out and bring it to the dealer it will cost less to fix

I had the same problem so I replaced the stereo. If you decide to replace the stereo, please go to a reputable place that has done this in the past. Good luck and enjoy!

alfredo, when you replaced the stereo could you still control everything using the steering wheel mounted controls(including bluetooth)

Yup. Steering wheel controls work with the radio. Bluetooth connects to your phone and the voice comes out of your speakers. Really cool. Again, go to a stereo installation place that has worked on X5's before.

o so youve never doe it before youself?i had removed the radio before but i never could manage to figure out to remove the rack that the cd player rests on so i never went for it

My MID became almost unreadable. BMW should be horse whipped for this poor design! The BMW dealer wanted over $600 for the part plus installation which they said could be up to $300. I found German Audiotech on EBay who did the repair for $199 which includes a lifetime warranty on the repair. They give you instructions on the MID removal (which is a 30 second job) and mail them your MID. German Audiotech turned my unit around in one day and it works perfectly.

german auditech.do they have a website i could order an MID from or is german audiotech like the name of a guy on ebay who just happens to have them
