Dent Remover

Has anyone ever using dent remover like Dent King? My X5 got hit today with a big dent under the hood under the BMW mark. Any suggestion is highly appreciated. Pictures post as below. Thank you very much.

That looks a bit to drastic and on the bodyline. You are still going to need paint work

Dent Doctor or the paintless dent remover will not fix your problem because the paint itself was also damaged. It's a bodyshop repair. Sorry. I have had personal experience with the paintless dent repair on my Imola Red M3. I got a dent in a parking lot right along the crease under the rear passenger side window. The paint was not disturbed. The fix cost me 125 and no one can tell where the dent was. The bottom line is that the paint itself cannot be disturbed.

Say goodbye to $1200.

For a "paintless" repair to work the paint needs to be there....

Hey, paint happens, not a big deal. Take pictures, document the work done, and drop it in the file should you ever need to sell the car and someone say "front end damage"

it happened the same on my E46 M. can't use paint-less dent remove. But I found my self an excuses to change to a carbon hood

Yeah, I agree. It's a bit too much damage for paintless dent removal.

Why don't you have the person who hit you / their insurance co pay for this? Unless you hit them from behind.

For what it's worth, Flemington BMW uses "The Dent Man" his name is Bill Rochford and his phone is 609-647-6065.

I don't think paintless dent removal will work but you can follow up with Bill if you like.

Yes. It is the PAINT that makes it expensive.

Dent repair itself is nothing- an hour, tap-tap, prime, some filler to get the contours perfect.

But you need to prep the whole hood, paint and blend the color, sand, then clearcoat the whole hood.

Maybe only $900?

At least $1,200 ...I'd say closer to $1,800 to $2,000 being that it's in NJ. Whole hood needs to be painted after repair.

I bet they might even replace the hood if the insurance company was paying - it is a tough repair spot and is difficult to get behind to get the dent out perfectly and it wouldn't be acceptable to use much filler there due to the amount of flex the hood has and the repeated opening and closing. At the cost of labor, the hood is cheaper to replace fairly quickly as a new hood would reduce prep time significantly. It is also creased heavily by the roundel, which makes PDR unlikely to be able to perfectly remove the dent - my bet would be on a hood, prep and paint - probably 1200 - 1500 and up done right.

The problem with replacing the hood is blending the color...then you are blending the color onto the fenders and need to clearcoat those!!!

You cannot just 'paint color' right up to a panel edge...this is how most crap repairs are seen...the panels just don't match.

The good news it that there really is no 'other' panel within 12 -18 inches of the repaired area. That is kind of a rule of thumb- for example door damage within 6 inches of the back edge will cause them to color into the rear door, and clear coat both. Freaks people out, but it is how to get perfect repairs... or as perfect as possible.


So for a new hood, they paint the color on the hood to the edges, but then 'blend' the new color onto the existing painted fender. But this means the whole fender then gets a new clearcoat!

I'd really want just the nose colored, and clearcoat the whole hood.
