I've noticed many mistakes with CARFAX and/or AutoCheck. I run a website that keeps track of ZHPs and each VIN I simply enter into one of those sites just to verify that the VIN is correct and I often see 330i that comes up with 2.5 littre engine.. which is obviously incorrect.

The best think you can do is send an email to info.service@bmw.de with your VIN
This is BMW customer service e-mail, they will send you the option list for that VIN. It should also include the model.

You can always make sure your front wheels drive .. that should answer it quickly.

What are digits 4-7 of your VIN? If it's "AV53" it's an rwd 330i. If it's "ES53" then it's an xi.

For the model year check digit 10 - 1=2001, 2=2002, 3=2003, 4= 2004, 5 = 2005, etc

When I bought my car the title also said 330i so I got under and made sure there was a front driveshaft and differential (thats what your looking for). I thought the previous owner had slapped an xi badge on it for some stupid reason. I dont know why it didnt say xi on the title.

Hmm, it definitely looks like you might have a RWD car... Does your car have an HDC button in the center console (and does it work?)

Edit:
Actually I looked up a few other 330xis online, and it seems like maybe in 2001 BMW didn't differentiate them by VIN

Try putting the last 7 digits into this decoder http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

In 2001, AWD was an option on the 325 and 330 instead of being a totally separate model.

Feel like I'm back in the AOL instant messenger age reading these words

The word "there" can appear as a pronoun, as in “over there".

"Their" is a possessive pronoun. In a phrase like “Susan and Bill's car,” it could be used to to make a new phrase: “their car.”

”They're” is a contraction of “they are.”
“They are” should always be able to replace “they're.”

Extra credit: It's "I'm looking for an M3" not "I'm looking for a M3".

Go to RealOem.com and put in the last 7 digits of your serial number and it will tell you what model you have and what equipment the car has.
