Not too uncommon. I've had the same experience with my last two BMWs. Just let them know what you want and be very clear. Usually they're happy to have less work to do.

No, I know the GM and SM personally, so I guess they really are unusually accommodating. That is the reason why my initial complaint in the OP was only as to the Factory and NOT the dealer (but people on this board insisted the dealer was to blame as well).
