When does production of 2012 X5 begin?

Does anyone know if there will be any changes, such as the addition of LED angel eyes?

Already several threads discussing this... Try searching this forum for "2012".

But the short answer is:
  • 2012 X5 production is scheduled to begin April 1. This is pretty much the only piece of info that is confirmed.
  • No big changes are expected.
  • LED angel eyes would be nice, but no hard info yet..
  • Price increase shouldn't be large if any, but no hard into yet.
  • Dealers will need to be specifying their April cars pretty soon, so I would expect order guides to be out this month sometime.

I just ordered a 2011 X5 35d through Military Sales in Germany. This is my third BMW from the same salesman and he is normally reliable. He called me up and asked me did I wan't to wait, because production on the 2012 X5 35d had been delayed until October 2011. The 35i Petrol models will begin in April. He stated that he was pretty certain it was because the 35d will be getting the 4.0 Engine and the 8 Speed Transmission. I ordered the 2011 (didn't care about bigger engine and definitely don't want to pay more $$$$).

don't know about that I would love to at least have the 8-speed trannie only because i had nightmares with the 6-speed on the 4.8i X5...

I see that you are in Germany, is the x5 you ordered a US spec vehicle? Are you saying that US buyers will be able to purchase a 40d after October? Thanks.

Yes my vehicle is US specs. Buying a BMW over here through the military sales program is a great deal for us stationed overseas.

What kind of problems have you had. Most of my friends here in Europe have the 3.0 and 3.5d, with no problems. Never talked to anyone with the 4.8.

I don't know what the dealer had to do exactly fix it (it took several visits) but about 4 months after i got the 4.8i i noticed the transmission was not at all smooth, down shifting when lifting off the gas, searching for gears etc.

8 months before I gave up my lease the problems started again not as severe but noticeable. Again same routine, twice in the dealer to fix it but this time they never got it quite right or I just had it with the thing and was "feeling" things that were not there. Very unpleasant however compared to my C350 with its slick smooth 7 speed. So here is hoping to a better experience with the 35d.

This info seems a bit off. They have already issued confirmation that the x5m and x6m 2012 production begins in March. I don't see the regular 2012 x5 beginning in October. But maybe your rep is correct.

Certainly love to see the 40d in the USA with the 8sp. Maybe they'll even add active cruise as well !!

Might actually change my 2009 35d at that point. Currently the way the 35d is now in it's current LCI form, the upgrade is not compelling enough.

The 2012 will start in April (VIN numbers) they might well do a mid year change over, which could well be the 40d. & 8 speed trannie.
Don't forget, the 40d is still just the same old 3.0 d engine, but with a twin scroll turbo.
that helps get better economy, better off the line performance, and lower emissions.
Sam etorque, but higher BHP (306)

I don't see any reason why the 35d's in April wouldn't be 8 speed other than it would just help them to boost sales in October.
Everything over here in Europe, that is EU spec has the 8 speed trannie on 2011 VINs
that's X5, X6, new 5 F10, 5GT, and 7 series, & new 6 series

I thought to chop in my MY2010 (built July 2009) for a 2012 Vin number, but I would be loosing about 30 grand on trade in, so I think I'll stay with this one, and just chip it once the warranty runs out in September. Or I'll extend the warranty to 5 years.

I can not imagine BMWUSA offering 35i's and 50i's as 2012's, but holding off on 2012 X5 diesels for an additional six months. This would tank X5 diesel sales, which BMWUSA has been working so hard to promote (likely for CAFE reasons).

I would believe a mid-model-year change for the diesels in October though.

Great to know no dramatic change will go with the 2012 X5 models. Knowing that they included 4000 new parts for 2011 and a then new look for 2012 didn't sound right.

The bottom line, more time to enjoy the new 2011 model

I received my order information today from my sales representative here in Germany. Production will start on my 35d in May and it will be a 2011 model. My friend, who ordered his 35i SA model, also received his production start date (May) and his will be a 2012.

If your sales rep ends up being correct about this it adds to his credibility in regards to a 40d/ 8 speed version for the USA!

The 35d has been pushed until Oct, the 35i petrol will start production in May.

I'm still skeptical that BMW will sell 2011 X5 35d's alongside 2012 X5 gasoline models for five months, especially considering they are obviously very eager to move diesels.

Hi new to the forum but have been a keen reader for some time. Here in Australia we have the 40d twin scroll turbo and the 8 speed. Have only just purchased mine with aforementioned specs. With all the extras ours is written up as X5 40d Sport Innovations. Cheers

I think the order cutover is March 1, but the build cutover is April 1. Dealers should have already ordered vehicles for all the build slots up to 4/1.

I'm sure some dealers have unsold x5's that have already been ordered but hadn't entered production yet. They could still have the specs changed to get a 2011 with a build slot in the next six weeks and take performance center delivery in late March or April. I think earliest Performance Center deliveries for 2012 will be in May.

I'm hoping we see the 2012 price sheets any day now...

Anyone have any updates on the 2012? I am hoping to order a diesel but am confused what is happening. Will the diesel change to a 2012 on April 1 (with an Oct update) or will it remain a 2011?
