Where does this plug GO?

I have an 2001 e39. I replaced my alternator a few months ago and now I just noticed that there is a cable plug not connected to anything. Need help identifying where it goes. Any help would be well appreciated. Here are some

pics. I have checked the alternator and it has its plug connector connected. Thanks.

An e39 what? The e39 in the USA has multiple engines & models: M52/M52TU/M54 B30/M54B25/M62/M62TU/S62. In 2001 you could have any of the aforementioned except for the M62, M52 & M52TU.

You really should consider adding your model & model year in a permanent signature...or adding it to the car info that appears in the upper right of your posts.

This is a M54B25. I have checked all places that it could possibly fit but still no idea.

Cool, ya no sweat did a few searches on here and apparently this is just some sort of extra plug. I do have check engine light but its for CPS. Also need to replace my emergency breaks. Any good DIY on replacing the brake shoe? I fond one for the CPS but no clear directions on brake shoe. Thanks.

Shoe? Do you mean for the parking brakes?
  1. I clicked on the VERY best of E39 Links (SEE NOTE 1)
    • Note 1: It's more efficient when you set your Bimmerfest control panel to the maximum number of posts per page so a single search will find what you need. Click on your Bimmerfest "User CP -> Edit Options -> Number of Posts to Show Per Page -> 80 -> Save Changes".
  2. I pressed my operating system "find" hotkey (i.e., "control f" in Windows & Linux & "command f" on the Mac) (SEE NOTE 2)
    • NOTE 2: With Firefox, the slash (/) hotkey, in addition to "control f", does the same search, without the extra overhead.
  3. I typed the search term, e.g., "shoe" (sans quotes) & the cursor focus jumped to the first match it found (SEE NOTE 3)
    • NOTE 3: On Windows & Linux, the "F3" hotkey will jump to the next find; "shift F3" will reverse the find; "enter" will open the current link. If the search fails, the search term will highlight in red. (Mac users, please let me know what keys you use.)
This instantly came up with:
- CN90 rear parking brake shoes overhaul DIY

That same fishing procedure came up with this:
- How to replace your camshaft position sensor (CPS) in the E39 (02 530i) (98 540i) (M62 98 540i) (98 528i) (530i) & E46 (1) & ('99 740iL)

Your job will be to add value to those threads; or to let us now what other DIYs you found that are better than what we already have here.

That way, every thread adds new value to our ever growing knowledge base.

When you wrote CPS, I assumed you meant the CPS (and not the CKP).

However, if you actually meant the CKP, then this thread will be interesting:
