2005 X3 6 Year update

It's been six very good years with our 2005 X3. The SAV has 75k and it looks just as good as when we picked it up at the BMW dealer here in Mannheim Germany. This SAV has spend 4 years doing the 100+ autobahn here in Germany and 2 year in the heat of Alabama with never a problem. The only major repair we had done was to replace all the wheel bearing which wore out. Otherwise it has been great, reliable, and safe SAV. The wife would not think about getting anything else. It is not perfect but it's been the best purchase we ever made. But to be honest I still prefer driving my 436 hp 2009 Corvette on the German Autobahns (ups sorry wrong forum). Anyway the wife is looking forward for another year or two before we trade up for the new X3.

I've had the X3 at sustain speeds of around 120 MPH and it tracks with no problems ( until the wife tells me to slow down) The Corvette has seen 170 MPH, (without the wife in the car) and it's a stable ride still willing to do more. Just for the record I am a BMW guy, My first BMW was a 1969 2000, I've also had two 3 series (latest one being a 2006 325xi), two 5 series, latest being a 2008, 528, and two 7 Series, and of course the X3. The biggest mistake I did was to try a Mercedes, NOT again, next year my E class is giving way to a 2012 535. By the way, living here in Germany with a BMW is rewarding BUT BMWs are a dime a dozen here, now drive down the road with a beautiful Corvette,, it's amazing how everyone has to take a double look at it , Unbelievable.

Nice post and I love the 'vette! One thing I wondered is if you have any problems with oil
temp in the 'vette at the sustained high speeds on the bahn (oil crankcase capacity issues). A dry sump system would of course be the best way to go. Anyway glad you enjoyed your X3.

Dry sump system as in the ZO6 is great when you are pulling a lot of 'Gs" not so much on the straight autobahn. Besides if any of you have driven in Germany you know that sustaining any speed here is hit and miss with so many cars on the road. When my tour is up here in Germany , the Corvette stays, there is no way I could drive this car in the states again, not after experiencing its ability here and not able to do the same back home. I'll be driving my X3 and my 535 at a snails pace of 70 MPH. (yea right)

Thanks tony. I'll bet you get a really good price for that beautiful 'vette when you leave too. Nice to see the "general" still builds fast capable cars.

Great stuff. I traded my 2004 3.0 last week for a 2011 X5 50i. I had about 72k. Still was a great runner, but the stiff ride was wearing on me. Only thing I miss from the X3 is the manual transmission.
