Anyone got any tips on how to replace this the right way on an 03 X5?

Unclip then use medium size screw driver to pry gently, little by little (and go around the circumference of the connector). Be careful with the plastic "U" shape pipe it rather britle with age. Worse come to worst, this hose assembly cost around $37 at the dealer, or if you break the "U" plastic shape just use copper freezer tubing for replacement; OK I only seen it done by someone, cause I broke mine and just replace it from dealer. To me I don;t want to deal with leaks on the freeway with home brew stuff.

Yeah mine broke on highway at night! Not fun at all. Do the clips just pull out?

The clip won't complete come off just pull out so you can slide the connector off the nipple (the clip stays with the connector).
