528i ordered-tracking question

After driving my e46 330xi for 9 years I ordered a 528i, alpine white, cinnamon brown, pp1, sp, xenon, dark wood, anthracite headliner, nav, iPod, 6NR (thanks to lurking here!). Dealer gave me production number and a manufacture date of week of 3-6. The BMWusa status is ordered with no production dated sched. How many days prior to actual production do they schedule a production date?
This is my second ordered BMW, but I am rusty after 9 years.

Thanks a lot, I've missed the Fest!

I did not get a production status date until the week my car started production. Then it just gave me the estimated completion date.

Got a 404 error on the link.

Here's what has been happening on my order:
2/10 Order at dealer
2/15 Get VIN and production number from dealer and projected completion date
2/18 Car in body assembly and VIN applied
2/21 Entered paint shop
2/23 Car completed (same date as was projected)
2/24 Car at dispatch to go to port
2/26 Car at port
2/28 Notified of earliest date for PCD

The date is 4/18 !? 7 weeks for transit and delivery prep?

My three (six shipments total) round trip car shipments for military duty to Europe averaged only 4 weeks, one was just 10 days - but that was when I shipped to Canada because of the longshoreman strike on the East coast. The longest that I recall was 5+ weeks from New Orleans to Southampton.

So it is looking like the total time is going to be about 10 weeks. I'll update/edit this entry as dates change/get added so that it will all be in one place for the curious.
Time to go have another beer and wurst.

I ordered it Friday 2/25, got the pdtn number that afternoon. Got a call from SA that it started production today with a VIN number. I confirmed with BMWNA via the automated line. Wow this is too good to be true.

That is pretty amazing.

I ordered 2/24, got the production number then. Checked it right away on line and showed picture of wrong color and without M Sport by Friday afternoon picture was right color and showed M Sport. However it just says ordered waiting on production date. Tried phone status as well everyday with the same result.

Actually last few hours, website is not working for me, just gives a "sorry" screen.

I got the "sorry" screen too today. The BMW website has been a POS for the 9 years that I have been on it. I also had wrong specs to begin with, as the production number was re-assigned from another allocated order. I went ordered but no production date scheduled to in production in 15 minutes time.

This link should work.

I'm in production with a completion date of March 7th and also getting the sorry screen.

Tried the BMW site track screen again this morning and still the "Sorry" screen. Trying to ever be the optimist, could it be that BMWNA is updating the page capability and we'll get a more detailed and accurate/current view when it comes back?

btw, has anyone ever gotten their car early? Yesterday's notice about the 7 week wait also said not to finalize plans until three weeks out.

After 9 years of playing with BMW order tracking I have no hope of an upgrade. I did get my 2002 330 earlier than the tracking indicated I would, by about a week. What is the 7 week delay thing- I'd bet it has to do with a spot avail for u at PCD. I'd like to do that someday

Haven't been able to get any word as to why 7 week delay. Only no info about shipping. Tried one of the marine tracking sites with the current satellite overhead and there aren't any RORO ships in Bremerhaven at this time. No matter how I figure wait, travel, and prep time, it never adds up to more than 4 weeks. So guess you're right about it being the wait for school at PCD. I'll let you know if it is felt that the extra wait is worth it after all.

Although it may be a blessing since the thing is coming with summer performance tires and will have to drive through the mountains on US50 and US35, which could be interesting if snow is there with the summer sandals on.

Mine should arrive just in time for hail season in tornado alley. At least the snow/ice should be gone.
