Question Air bag light ON with no codes...

Hi All,

I have following situation:

My SRS light is on by following pattern:
- turn key to 2: light is on, then in 2-3 sec off for few sec and then back on
after that stays on.

I checked AIRBAG unit with carsoft 6.5 and it says OK without any codes. I did reset it just in case. Also I've noticed that I have errors in Instrumental Clusters module but didn't see codes yet (just was able to set up carsoft finally).

Why it's on then if no codes? Can it be some electrical problem (fuse, connector etc). BTW I check passenger seat mat - all connections are fine there....

Dunno.

It's good you checked the mat.

Maybe it's something else in one of these threads?

I know nothing about Carsoft, but if its showing an airbag light, there is a code for it. I dont think its reading the BMW properly.

That's funny I've used carsoft 6.5 to read and clear codes from my SRS. Are you connecting to the plug in the engine compartment or under the drivers dash?

I didn't realize Carsoft 6.5 could reset the airbag light.

We should add that to one of these threads, for reference purposes, so that all knowledge is in the canonical threads for ease of location.

I've used under the hood ones. I will played a little bit more with it...

Did you used real serial port or any adapters to connect unit to laptop?

Question:

It just so happens my airbag light is on. Seems to have happened after my kid dinged the rear end into the mail box.

I don't have a code checker
What do you mean by checking the passenger mat?

It has been noted that Carsoft can reset/read SRS codes for years, I am sure even prior to my post in 2009 it has been discussed.

I used a staples USB to serial adapter, but the driver makes my laptop crash running XP.

We have to be careful ... I won't say much more than this ... as there was a thread that the mods closed and deleted half the posts on ... but there's "Carsoft" and there's "Carsoft".

Some of the things Carsoft says it can do, Carsoft actually can't do.

PM me if you don't know what I'm talking about.

But the point is that it's good if the specific Carsoft version can actually reset the airbag light! That's the main takeaway here.

BTW, if you have good links for "resetting" the airbag light, let me know as I should update the links for everyone to benefit.

two ways to reset the light, one make sure all the sensors are working properly, two use the proper tool to reset it. plus, it has also been noted that if you have worked on the doors, and unpluged the airbag and didn't dissconect the batt. first it will set off the light, and needs a reset tool.

NOTE-----PLEASE BE VERY CAREFULL USEING CARSOFT SOFTWARE, IF YOU DON'T HAVE COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE ON HOW TO USE THE PROGRAM YOU CAN RENDER YOUR CAR UNDRIVEABLE.

I'm using Carsoft just for diagnostic no more no less, don't want to ruin it with that staff.

Thank you all for answers! Looks like I'm going to eBay to buy SRS tool...

It would be great if you like this tool (just click the picture):

And then report back to the team how well it works.
