New X3 Lease: Does maxing out MSDs result in a higher monthly payment?

I've negotiated a 2011 X3 35i with an MSRP of $54,350 to $50,914. Comparing a 36 month lease (at the loyalty rate) with $3,000 down vs. maxing out MSDs ($5,250), my monthly lease payment went up, from to $720.69 to $735.85. Does that make sense?

I've read through a bunch of posts and realize the advantages of MSDs over simply putting money down. However, based on what I read, I thought my monthly lease payment would decrease. Perhaps I've misinterpreted something?

A down payment will have a bigger effect on the monthly payment than MSDs. If the principle financed is $15,000 then a 20% reduction will have a big effect on the monthly.

Totally. The amount you're financing is more than $3,000 higher. (You get the MSD's back at the end of the lease.) Try $3,000 down and max MSD's. Then you'll see the effect of the MSD's.

I would avoid putting much if any money into cap reduction on a lease. If you total that car the money is gone, completely. IMO stick with max msd and accept the higher payment. If you total the car then the deposit is returned in it's entirety.
