Moonroof wind noise

I hear loud windnoise coming from my moonroof when I am at slow speeds with the sunshade opened. At high speeds the windnoise is just too loud. It totally disappears when I close the sunshade. Is that a design flaw in these cars as I heard or is it due to the age of the car and can be fixed. My car is a 2001 with the glass roof. My son has an older 740il with the metal sunroof that does not make any windnoise. Any help with that issue?? Thanks.

There is a post called "Sunroof gasket replacement" on www.e38.org, which can help reduce wind noise.

For what it's worth, I had my sunroof seal replaced with the newer "felt" sunroof seal (the seal the goes around the the edge of the sunroof opening) years ago by the dealer on my 2000 740i. Since then (& still now), I get no noise from my sunroof with the inside cover open. Not at low speeds or freeway speeds.

That's great. I will do a search to see for how much the seal is running. Summer comes and it would be nice to have fresh air but without the noise.

You mean light without the noice? The felt seal only helps reduce wind noise when the glass roof is closed... but sun shade is open.
