Z3 DME / ECU replacement

Just finished a check up with the Mechanic and found that the CEL was not resetting even after replacing the air flow meter and gas tank valve sensor and he mentioned that these are not getting the signal from DME after doing some electrical testing and CEL is not working as the bulb is out ...

My question is , will replacing the bulb fix my issue or do I need to get a new DME or any used DME from another Z3 will work with just reprogramming ?

I would replace the bulb and see what happens. Maybe it is a "safety" feature to keep unscrupulous people from disabling the bulb before selling a car with issues. I know this is not a definitive answer to your question, but it is what I would do. I believe you should always start with the easy things first; often times they clear up the more complicated things and if they don't, you still needed to fix them anyways.

If you get a new DME you will have to have it coded to the car.

I got an M roadster DME if you want one.

But how come the dealer and the INDY mechanic are saying that 2000 and Up models cannot take a used DME as the keys have a chip too and you cannot program that into another cars DME ?.. Is that true ? if not can I get the used DME option ?

Clint has a 2001 coupe and he swapped the DME from another car. It was a bitch of work, but he did it.

See , I dont think my Indy mechanic has the knowledge of doing that and dealer will never do it . Is there a documentation of steps to follow? May be I can show that to my INDY and he can try that method ?
