I discussed this with my local dealer today and they also confirmed that 2012 X5 diesel would not be available until September or October. He said it was because they were changing the engine in the diesel. Whether or not that is correct, we shall see, but is seems clear that the 2012 X5d won't be here till the fall.

To Wait or Not to Wait?
Thanks for the dealer update. I know they often deal in limited information and partial truth but I think you are right from what I have heard as well.
I think as to whether you wait or not is depending on your reasons for waiting. If you want the latest greatest you wait. If the engine and transmission along with some exterior/interior changes don't matter to you then if you buy a 35D now and you probably will get a pretty good deal. That said, you ought to be considering what a new engine and transmission does to the depreciation of an older models. Myself, now that I am fairly certain I am waiting for a substantial change on the 2012 X5 35D I can hold out a little longer. If you can't wait you'll still have a really great SUV. |

The rest of the world gets the n57 3.0L 40d with an 8 speed trans and 3.15 final drive vs our old m57 35d with a 6 speed and 3.64 final drive.
It only makes sense that BMW will introduce the 40d to the USA, hopefully this fall. I hope they introduce a USA x3 30 or 40d at the same time. |

Hard to find deals on 2011's in spite of 2012 changes coming
Dealers seem to feel that since there are very few 2011's left, they don't have to discount them. There is a dealer here with a 2011 factory demo with 11K miles on it. Sticker = $66K and they will only go to $60K and that is INCLUDING the eco credit.
I cannot get them to budge and they have been sitting on it for weeks. Guess I will be waiting for the 2012 and purchasing from the dealer that has offered me $1K over invoice. I will have to keep my fingers crossed that the eco credit will still be in place.

But the dealers should be still willing to make deals on 35d 2011's if MY 2012 won't be out until fall. There will be several months of 2011 production before the production switches over so dealers still have allocations to sell. I think the trick is good timing. I found that many of them weren't willing to sell at the level of profit I want to give them until towards the end of the month - when they need to meet numbers or have an allocation that is about to go into production that pershaps someone has abandoned or has not been sold.

For me, it makes sense to wait for a 2012 35d or buy the petrol 35i SA. Like I have posted before, I can save almost $750 by getting the 2012 versus the 2011 that I have on order now and I get HUD, and Auto High Beams.
I am thinking of switching and getting the 35i SA. Will be around $3000 cheaper than 35d and I can get it in June. |

My 2008 535i lease is up in late April so I just pulled the trigger on a 2012 X5 35i. Very strange process in this weird time between 2011 and 2012 model years...
Dealing with 2 different dealers for the exact same vehicle and was quoted different residuals and money factors? Price was close but stayed with my home town guys that sold me current car. New 2012 Premium package now includes auto tailgate, auto dimming mirrors, lumbar support, heated front seats, park distance control, ambient lighting, BMW assist, cargo cover and Hi-Fi sound. Added to that NAV, premium sound, cold weather pkg, multi-contour seats, BMW apps, running boards and rubber floor mats. MSRP of $61,675. Went for platinum bronze, black Dakota leather and light poplar. 36 months with 15,000 miles/year and a total of $2000 out the door costs with $816.68 per month. Now the wait begains!

Help me out here, is this the Hi Fi sound that is an option on the 2011, or just the same system but called a Hi Fi sound that is now standard in the premium package. |

Not sure on pricing on a 2012, but I bought my 2011 for about $500 over invoice from a dealership down there in Texas.

If you like torque close to the X5 50i and great gas mileage for a SUV then you might like the 35d. But if you don't like diesel prices, hunting for diesel fuel stations and louder engine then you might not like the 35d. In addition, you cannot get a 2012 35d right now. Only 2011 since the production year has not switched over yet. Rumor says around August and it may be getting a 8-cyl engine and 8-speed tranny.

So I went down to my dealer and test drove a 2011 x5, like it aand askd him for NA quote. He gave me quote for 2012 x5d about 3700below msrpnot including the eco credit. Ibasked him to verify that it was 2011 or 2012. He came back and said that they have allcations for 2012only now. All 2011are already allocated.this is one of the better dealrs in my area with several of the people vouching him to be better than the rest of them. Can this be true?

Even if he is sold out, keep going back to check with him because people often cancel their orders. At this juncture, he cannot say for certain whether there will be eco credit next month or the month after, let alone this fall. The availability of eco credit is announced on a month-to-month basis. Keep in mind the gas models have already switched to MY 2012 so make sure he's not mixing the two.

Most dealers ARE out of 35d allocations
But I ordered one and and didn't take it when it came in since the dealer really pissed me off. I know that they'd love to sell it ASAP.
PM me if anyone wants info.
