Privacy Glass on New X3

Hey all - new to BF, but not to BMWs.

Question - I just ordered an X3 last week, and put my dealer through hoops trying to find out if I can order it without the privacy glass. He said no, but thought I'd check in here to see if anyone has been able to order without.

Great community here - keep up the great work.

Privacy Glass is an option on some European-specification F25 X3's. So you can get a European model X3 without the deep-tinted glass.

Unfortunately, European-spec (DIN) glass has not always been tested to meet US (DOT) standards. AFAIK, all US-spec F25 models have the deep-tinted rear windows. Therefore, non-Privacy Glass that meets DOT standards may not exist for the new X3.

alpin - thanks for the info. although i was hoping you'd be able to give me the name and phone # of a "secret someone" in SC who could delete the privacy glass from my order : ), what you relay seems to make sense.

Seems weird to me that "glass" would be installed in the USA and yet not meet the DOT standards, while coming down the line next to it (for all intents and purposes) is an X3 that DOES have glass installed meeting US standards. Is european "glass" in someway better than US glass? Hard for me to believe that. Remember we are talking about just plain side window glass -- no embedded wires in it. Sounds like all the various parts are manufactured in Europe and then the whole shebang is shipped to S'burg and bolted together with little, or none, US made content.

This is what I was thinking.
