Finding Installed Options from VIN

I am the proud new owner of a 2008 335i. I purchased this vehicle from a non-BMW dealership. I stopped by my local BMW dealership trying to get the complete list of installed options on my vehicle. I was told that BMW does not allow them to release this information, even though I am the owner of the car. Is this correct? I can understand the maintenance items, which includes the previous owner's information. But just to get the installed options? Any feedback on the accuracy of this would be appreciated.

That's ridiculous, if you ask me. Did you talk to a salesman?

The parts person can do this using the parts computer. If you're not buying parts, I suppose it's kind of a favor to do it for you. Hit 'em up when they don't look busy; they
can print it off for you.
